In addition, the dressing itself allows air to pass through, while at the same time creating a barrier against the penetration of bacteria towards the wound. The bandage removes heat from the wound very effectively and cools the damaged area, which relieves pain. With the removal of the bandage, the accumulated exudate is also removed from the wound. The bandage prevents the wound from drying out. Immediate application of the dressing reduces the likelihood of developing a hypertrophic scar. Removing the bandage is painless.
